Fundamentals of Keyboard Music

Musical Keyboard / Piano

Keyboard meant for beginners which basically smaller than Piano.

Piano will have more no of keys, also includes the Pedal etc. Piano's sound and feel soooo much nicer to play.

For beginners Keyboard will do the purpose

Octave:

It is the Interval between the two muscial pitches. Do not confuse at this point of time. Octave is set of 7 white and 5 black keys in a keyboard.

C to B including black keys called one octave

CASIO MA-150 is 4 octave musical keyboard, it has four octaves.

Notes:

Each Key represents one music note , C D E F G A B are the notes in the one octave.

Black keys are normally represented as C# D# F# G# A#

Playing these notes in different styles and patterns will produce music / noise based on the selection of the notes.

You might think why there are keys between the white keys, Even i had this Question in my mind when i see the keyboard. Logic is as you go right hand side of the keyboard there is increase in the octave levels and the pith of the music. If there is no middle black key your keyboard size would have been doubled to incorporate those many notes. One more thing is the extensibility and stretch of the board.

Oh, if you are a beginner you may feel it is too much info on the first day. So lets start the first tune on the keyboard.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Da Ni Sa

C D E F G A B C1

If you feel it is very basic try the background music of Jeans (Tamil/Telugu) Movie

G A B A

G A B A

G A B C1 ( C1 is the key on the RHS of B - next octave)

Play this sequence on different locations of the Keyboard, you will feel different styles. Timing between the different notes is very important while playing the KB.
